President Trump Increases Tariffs on South Korea
President Trump announced a tariff increase on South Korean imports from 15% to 25% due to the country’s failure to approve a previously agreed trade deal. The deal, reached with President Lee Jae-myung, included significant U.S. tariff reductions and a $350 billion investment commitment from South Korea in key U.S. sectors. As of late 2025, South Korea was the U.S.’s eighth-largest trading partner, with a total trade of $162 billion. The legality of these tariffs is pending a Supreme Court ruling.
