US President Donald Trump praised Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa following the Syrian army’s offensive against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Syria. Al-Sharaa is due to meet Russian President Putin in Moscow to discuss bilateral relations and the situation in the Middle East. The White House had previously supported the SDF but has shifted its position, with the Syrian government now taking on security responsibilities in the country. Trump and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claim to have solved a significant problem in conjunction with Syria, without providing further details.
