Former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernandez, who was serving a 45-year prison sentence for drug trafficking, has been pardoned by President Donald Trump and is now free. Hernandez, arrested in February 2022 for accepting bribes from drug traffickers, maintained his innocence, claiming he was a victim of revenge. Trump’s decision to pardon him was influenced by claims that the Biden administration had set him up. The pardon coincides with increased U.S. military operations in the Caribbean targeting drug trafficking.
