President Donald Trump has appointed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau after firing former head Rohit Chopra. Bessent, a former hedge fund manager, will lead the CFPB until a permanent pick is named. Chopra, who was appointed by former President Joe Biden, clashed with the banking industry over regulations on fees before stepping down on Feb. 1.
