NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump‘s legal team attempted to serve a subpoena to Stormy Daniels at a bar in Brooklyn last month, but she refused to accept it and walked away. Daniels is expected to be a witness at the former president’s criminal trial.
A process server working for Trump’s lawyers stated that he tried to deliver the subpoena related to a documentary about Daniels’ life, but was unsuccessful. He had to leave the papers at her feet as she ignored him and continued into the venue.
The incident occurred before a screening of the “Stormy” film at the 3 Dollar Bill nightclub, sparking a legal battle between Trump’s lawyers and Daniels’ attorney as the trial commenced.
Trump’s legal team is seeking to compel Daniels to comply with the subpoena and included a photo of her walking away in their court filing. However, Daniels’ lawyer claims they never received the paperwork and criticized the request as harassment.
The case involving hush money is the first of Trump’s criminal trials to begin, with jury selection ongoing. Daniels is expected to testify about a payment she received in 2016 to keep silent about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump.
In another filing, the Manhattan district attorney’s office plans to challenge Trump’s credibility by questioning him about recent legal issues if he chooses to testify at the trial.
The dispute over the subpoena is part of Trump’s efforts to uncover potentially damaging information about Daniels, who is a key witness in the case.
