Trudeau, premiers to meet Wednesday after Trump trade threat

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and provincial premiers are set to meet to discuss a united approach in response to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 25% import tariff on Canada and Mexico. Trudeau emphasized the importance of effective connections between the two countries and the need to address various issues including trade, border security, energy, defence, and cross-border supply chains. Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who chairs the Council of the Federation, requested the urgent meeting to prioritize a Team Canada approach and put aside partisanship in dealing with the potential trade threat.
