Utah Hockey Club’s plans to announce a permanent name and identity before the 2025-26 NHL season were delayed after the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected their application for “Utah Yetis” due to potential confusion with existing trademarks. The USPTO cited the generic nature of “Utah” and similarities with other registered marks as reasons for the refusal, giving the team three months to respond. Despite the setback, the club remains committed to involving the community in the naming process and intends to unveil a new name and identity in time for the upcoming NHL season.
