Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke held private talks with Save the Children regarding the repatriation of ISIS brides, instructing a senior public servant to leave for discussions with advocates. Despite declining formal aid requests for Australians in Syria, Burke suggested that individuals could return without government involvement. A group of six Australians, including two women and four children, returned from Syria in September, although the government claimed they arranged their own travel. Experts believe the government facilitated their return through behind-the-scenes negotiations.
