Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton is expected to become the next chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence after Sen. Marco Rubio is appointed as secretary of state in the new administration. Cotton, a vocal critic of China and Iran, has withdrawn his name from cabinet consideration but remains confident in securing the No. 3 Republican leadership position and maintaining support from President-elect Donald Trump. Senator Mark Warner is currently the Intel chair and is expected to become vice chair in the new Congress when Republicans hold the majority.

Prisoners recently eligible for parole sue over delay in hearings
Seven incarcerated men in Massachusetts, eligible for parole following a 2024 Supreme Judicial Court ruling, are suing over delays in scheduling their hearings.
