The recent reprieve of the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter has triggered plans for a wind farm expansion in the Southland region of New Zealand. The smelter’s continued operation means more demand for renewable energy sources, prompting the development of additional wind turbines. This expansion will not only help meet the increased energy needs of the smelter but also contribute to the country’s goal of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2035.
