U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken calls for an “inclusive and non-sectarian” interim government while meeting with allies in Iraq, Jordan, and Turkey. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the main insurgent force, aims to establish security and reassure the public after seizing power, as international recognition and concerns about extremist rule in Syria arise.
