The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances finds that out of 1,569 confirmed cases, 287 fell into the ‘missing and dead’ category.
A new report by Bangladesh’s Commission of Inquiry indicates that enforced disappearances related to ousted leader Sheikh Hasina may total between 4,000 and 6,000 cases. While 1,569 cases were verified, 287 were categorized as ‘Missing and Dead’. The report suggests a political motive behind these disappearances, predominantly affecting members of opposition parties. Hasina, facing allegations of orchestrating these actions, has fled the country following a death sentence in absentia.
