ATCO Ends Local Gas Network; Customers to Switch to Bottled Gas
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Albany’s Gas Network Decommissioning

Albany’s gas network will be phased out, requiring about 60% of connected homes and businesses to transition to bottled gas over the next three years, as ATCO cites the network’s aging infrastructure. The estimated $80 million cost of replacing the mains will fall on customers, given Albany’s status as a “not covered network.” ATCO promises a seamless transition, with no appliance changes needed, as they work with the community and Alinta Energy to ensure support during the process. The decommissioning is set to begin in late 2026, marking Albany as the only area in Western Australia facing this change.
