A mass grave outside Damascus reportedly contains the bodies of at least 100,000 people killed by the former government of Bashar al-Assad, according to the head of a Syrian advocacy organization. The site at al-Qutayfah, north of the Syrian capital, is one of five mass graves identified, with more graves and foreign victims, including US and British citizens, alleged. The mass killings are part of the ongoing violence in Syria since 2011, with accusations of widespread extrajudicial killings by al-Assad and his father, Hafez, who are also accused of mass executions within the country’s prison system.
