Fortune 500 companies have inadvertently employed thousands of North Korean engineers masquerading as American citizens, facilitating the illegal transfer of salaries to fund the regime’s weapons programs. This scheme has generated an estimated $250 million to $600 million annually since 2018, with the use of AI enabling these workers to create false identities and hold multiple jobs simultaneously. Companies are now implementing identity verification protocols to combat this threat, as the stolen data and funds directly support North Korea’s nuclear ambitions.
