Mahfuza, a resilient fisherwoman, begins her day at 5am, prioritizing dawn prayer before heading out on her boat without a proper breakfast. Managing to catch around five kilos of fish monthly, she provides for her family while navigating the unpredictable challenges posed by seasonal changes, government fishing bans, and threats from pirates, having once been held at gunpoint. Despite these dangers, including cyclones and wildlife, Mahfuza takes pride in her independence and ability to support her children, emphasizing, “I need no man,” as she continues to brave the waters alone for their survival.
