Earth Nears Landmark Global Warming Target

Earth experienced its fifth-warmest February on record last month, with temperatures 1.49C above pre-industrial levels. The month was marked by extreme rainfall and widespread flooding in Western Europe, partly due to climate change. The UK also saw wet conditions, with one of the five wettest Januarys and the warmest February day since 2019. The global temperature rise of 1.49C makes it the fifth-warmest February, just 0.1C below the Paris Agreement target. The Arctic had the third-lowest sea ice extent on record for the month.
