The decommissioned aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy, the last conventionally powered flattop built by the US Navy, began its final journey to the scrapyard after being moored in Philadelphia for nearly two decades. The Kennedy namesake will continue with the future Ford-class nuclear-powered supercarrier. The vessel, commissioned in 1968, completed 18 deployments over nearly four decades, including involvement in key conflicts such as the Arab-Israeli conflict and the first air strikes in Afghanistan. The ship was also famously involved in one of the greatest military pranks involving greased pigs.
