The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) in Australia has released draft guidelines targeting cancer-causing PFAS chemicals in drinking water, proposing much lower limits for four types of PFAS. High levels of PFAS, known as ‘forever chemicals’, have been found in groundwater across Australia, prompting the need for stricter regulations. The guidelines are now open for public consultation, with the final version set to be published in April 2025.
