Thames Water, the largest water supplier in Britain, has been fined £122.7 million by regulator Ofwat, marking the largest penalty in its history, due to violations in wastewater operations and shareholder dividend rules. The fine includes £104.5 million for breaching wastewater regulations and £18.2 million for improper dividend payments, with costs borne by shareholders rather than customers. Ofwat’s chief executive criticized the company for failing to maintain adequate infrastructure, which has contributed to environmental damage and poor service for its 16 million customers.
