Thailand’s government is now led by Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s coalition, including royalist and military-linked parties within the Pheu Thai Party. Despite a decrease in youth-led protests since the 2023 elections, repression continues against pro-reform parties and social movement leaders through threats of dissolution and legal charges. This historical pattern of state-led repression has weakened democratic movements and parties, hindering their ability to build strong organizational bases and achieve a democratic breakthrough.
