Tens of thousands protested in Ankara against a court case that could lead to the ousting of the main opposition leader, CHP’s Ozgur Ozel, amid a year-long crackdown on the party. Ozel and Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, currently imprisoned, accused the government of undermining democracy and called for a snap election, while the government maintains the judiciary’s independence amidst widespread detentions of opposition members.
