Taiwanese authorities are investigating a Chinese-crewed ship suspected of cutting an undersea communications cable near Taipei, leading to tensions between the two countries. The Togolese-flagged cargo ship Hongtai was intercepted by Taiwan’s coast guard after the cable from Chunghwa Telecom was damaged, with the entire Chinese crew being detained for further investigation. This incident is the latest in a series of undersea cable damage cases involving Taiwan, with fears that China may be targeting these cables in attempts to disrupt communications or blockade the island.
