Syria's new leader denounces Iran, calling its proxies a regional threat

Syria’s interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa criticized Iranian militias in an interview, stating they were harmful to both Syria and the wider region. He highlighted efforts to rebuild ties with the world, starting with neighboring countries like Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Sharaa also emphasized that Syria’s future will not be dominated by one person and that stabilizing the country is the immediate priority. He mentioned that it would take four or five years before Syria holds elections, and that senior figures responsible for human rights abuses under Assad’s regime will be prosecuted.
