Syrian architect Abdel Aziz al-Mohammed returned to his war-damaged village of Tal Mardikh, where nearly half of its homes were destroyed, and used drone documentation to create an interactive map of the destruction, aiding reconstruction efforts funded by the NGO Shafak. As Syrians begin to return post-civil war, Mohammed hopes to see his village rebuilt and a hopeful future emerge for Syria, despite ongoing challenges in reconstruction funding.

Explain It To Me Like I’m 5: Abdel Aziz al-Mohammed, an architect, returned to his destroyed village in Syria after many years, used a drone to take pictures of the damage, and is now helping to rebuild homes so people can come back and live there again.
