IAEA head Grossi describes the new government as ‘committed to opening up to the world, to international cooperation’.
Syria’s new government has granted the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) immediate access to inspect suspected former nuclear sites, marking a significant step towards international cooperation. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi, who met with President Ahmed al-Sharaa, expressed optimism about concluding inspections within months, aiming to clarify past nuclear activities potentially linked to weapons. Despite this progress, Israel has increased military actions in Syria, while the IAEA plans to assist in rebuilding the country’s medical nuclear infrastructure.
