Over the last two days, more than 100 combatants were killed in northern Syria in clashes between Turkish-backed groups and Syrian Kurdish forces, with 85 pro-Turkish fighters and 16 Kurdish fighters among the dead. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) repelled attacks from Turkish forces, while Turkey claimed to have “neutralised” 32 Kurdish fighters. The conflict, rooted in accusations of Kurdish affiliations with the PKK, has escalated despite US-led efforts to establish peace in the region.
