The fall of Syria's dictatorship ripples out to one family in Toledo, Ohio

After years of separation from his family, Syrian refugee Mohammed al-Refai settled in Toledo, Ohio, where he worked and awaited his US citizenship. When Assad’s regime fell, Mohammed reunited with his family in Jordan, who had recently moved to the US to live together. The end of the dictatorship brought closure and joy to Mohammed’s long journey of displacement and longing for his loved ones.
