Synergy Marine Group, along with shipowners Eastern Pacific Shipping, Seaspan, Capital Shipping, and CoolCo, has adopted autonomous vegetable-growing technology onboard ships using Agwa’s AI-directed cultivation devices to enhance sustainability and crew wellbeing. The Synergy-managed suezmax tanker Effie Maersk has been utilizing Agwa units since September, producing up to four bowls of fresh salad per week and herbs for seasoning. Synergy plans to expand the use of these grower units across its managed fleet of over 700 ships to promote healthier eating habits and improve morale and well-being among seafarers.
