Germany is reeling from the attack in Magdeburg by suspect Taleb A., a 50-year-old psychiatry specialist who plowed a BMW into a Christmas market, killing five and injuring 200. Taleb, a former Muslim critical of Islam, had ties to far-right groups and the AfD party, and believed German authorities were not doing enough to combat “Islamism of Europe.” Terrorism expert Peter Neumann expressed shock at Taleb’s profile, calling him a Saudi ex-Muslim who aimed to punish Germany for its tolerance towards Islamists.
