Supreme Court Rules Against Trump Tariffs
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Supreme Court ruled that President Trump lacks the authority to impose sweeping tariffs on other countries under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), marking a significant setback for his economic policies. This decision upheld a previous ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals, declaring Trump’s tariffs illegal. While it restricts IEEPA use for tariffs, it does not prevent the president from imposing tariffs through other trade laws. The Court is also considering Trump’s power to dismiss officials at independent agencies and the legality of ending birthright citizenship.
