Nottingham Forest’s hopes of Premier League survival took a significant blow before the March international break as they were hit with a four-point penalty for breaching the division’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR). This penalty has put them in a precarious position as they fight to avoid relegation.
The points deduction has seen Forest drop to 18th place in the table, below Luton Town by a point and four behind 16th placed Everton, who may still face further PSR sanctions. Despite this setback, Forest’s immediate punishment has improved Luton Town’s chances of avoiding relegation from 78.1% to 62.1%.
On the other hand, Burnley and Sheffield United remain firmly rooted at the bottom of the table with a high probability of relegation at 94.8% and 98.4% respectively. Nuno Espirito Santo will need to rally his players and use the penalty as motivation to secure crucial points in their remaining fixtures.
The upcoming games against Crystal Palace, Fulham, Everton, Sheffield United, Chelsea, and Burnley provide Forest with opportunities to secure vital points in their bid for survival. Nuno will be looking to replicate Everton’s response to a similar penalty earlier in the season and guide Forest to safety in the Premier League.
