Jonasse Vilanculo, a top student from Mozambique, achieved five distinctions in his NSC final exams of 2024 but faces challenges obtaining a study visa due to financial constraints. Despite excelling academically, Vilanculo’s dreams of pursuing a BSc in Computer Science are in jeopardy as he lacks the necessary documentation and resources. With his parents working as street vendors, Vilanculo fears he may have to abandon his aspirations and resort to selling fruit if he cannot secure a study visa in South Africa.
