In March and April 2025, an image claiming to depict “Steeple Mountain” on Jupiter’s moon Io went viral, but was later confirmed as conceptual artwork based on actual data from NASA’s Juno mission. Steeple Mountain, standing between 3 and 4.3 miles tall, was represented through JunoCam’s images, with the mission aimed at studying Jupiter and its moons since 2016. Authentic images of Steeple Mountain were also made available, providing a clearer view of this intriguing geological feature on Io.
