Nineteen people have been confirmed dead in Jamaica due to Hurricane Melissa, which struck as a Category 5 storm, with officials warning that the death toll may rise as more bodies are recovered. The hurricane brought severe damage and left approximately 462,000 customers, or 66% of the population, without power. Relief efforts are underway, with multiple cargo flights and U.S. helicopters en route to assist. Minister Daryl Vaz expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from global partners.
