A Louisiana father, Joseph Boatman, has been arrested for second-degree murder after allegedly leaving his 1-year-old daughter in a hot car for over nine hours. After consuming alcohol, Boatman picked up his daughter from a relative’s home around 2:30 a.m. and failed to return to the vehicle, leading to her being found unresponsive later that day when temperatures reached 95 degrees, with a heat index of 105 degrees. This tragic incident marks the fifth hot car death of a child in the U.S. this year, highlighting the serious risks of leaving children in vehicles during high temperatures.
