A 41-year-old ski mountaineer, Alex Chiu from Seattle, was recovered after falling over 3,000 feet from Mount McKinley while climbing the West Buttress route on June 2. Following the accident, search efforts were hindered by severe weather, but rangers successfully located and retrieved his body after the conditions improved. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and it is noted that a similar tragedy occurred in 2010 at the same location, where a French mountaineer’s body was never found.
