A Minnesota woman, Wendy Rappaport, in her 80s, is suing Abbott Northwestern Hospital after a surgeon allegedly removed her healthy left kidney instead of her spleen during a March 2022 procedure, leading to her diagnosis of stage 5 kidney disease and the need for regular dialysis. The lawsuit claims that Dr. Devon Callahan performed the surgery and falsely documented the removal of the spleen, with Rappaport remaining hospitalized for nearly two months afterward. Allina Health, the hospital’s parent organization, plans to defend the case, while Rappaport’s legal team seeks fair compensation exceeding $50,000.
