A federal judge in Maryland is reviewing arguments regarding the deportation of Cristian, a 20-year-old Venezuelan man, to El Salvador, which contravened a prior court settlement. U.S. District Judge Stephanie Gallagher previously ordered the Trump administration to facilitate Cristian’s return to the U.S. for due process under a 2019 class action settlement for unaccompanied minors seeking asylum. However, the Department of Justice claims Cristian is linked to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, arguing that his asylum application would be denied if he returns.
