During a recent hearing, DOJ attorneys defended the deportation of four alleged Venezuelan gang members to El Salvador, asserting it did not breach a court order requiring noncitizens to have a chance to voice safety concerns before removal. They claimed the operation was conducted by the Department of Defense, not Homeland Security. U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy has yet to rule on modifying the injunction but indicated a need for further information on the notice given to the deported individuals and the roles of DHS and DOD.
