As administration eyes more AEA deportation flights, judge says he lacks authority to block them

A federal judge, James Boasberg, denied a request to block deportations under the Alien Enemies Act, citing a lack of authority following a Supreme Court ruling. The ACLU raised concerns over imminent deportations of Venezuelan migrants, arguing they were not given adequate time to contest their removals, which could start as soon as Saturday. Despite the judge’s sympathy, he stated he could not grant relief, and the DOJ indicated they may proceed with deportation flights while acknowledging ongoing detention of noncitizens in Texas.
