On 15 April 1967, Dr. King led a delegation to meet with Ralph Bunche and other top UN officials. Bunche, the first African American Nobel Peace Prize recipient, and Dr. King, the second, discussed important issues. This meeting took place on the International Day for People of African Descent, observed annually on 31 August.
