A stolen vehicle smashed head-on into another vehicle while travelling the wrong way on a QEW off-ramp in Hamilton early Wednesday.

Ontario Provincial Police say officers from their Burlington detachment responded to the “wrong-way vehicle” collision that occurred on Red Hill Pkwy., near the QEW, shortly before 4 a.m.

“The indication at this time is that the wrong-way vehicle was travelling in the Niagara-bound direction on the QEW when it collided head-on with a vehicle coming from Red Hill Parkway going Toronto-bound,” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in video posted to X.

He said the driver entering the QEW from Red Hill Pkwy. suffered “relatively minor injuries.”

“Witnesses after the fact reported seeing three males running from the scene,” Schmidt said. “Those males remain outstanding at this time.”

“We’re still trying to determine exactly how this vehicle got onto the ramp – if it came from the QEW, where it came from, and the circumstances surrounding that,” he said, adding the vehicle had been reported stolen.

“We are continuing to investigate and we are appealing for any witnesses (to come forward).”
