The announcement of the RFP for Bharat Small Reactors (BSRs) follows Minister of State Jitendra Singh’s statement outlining the government’s vision for nuclear power in response to the Lok Sabha. The BSRs are 220 Mega Watt pressurised heavy water reactors, already operational in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, with plans to reduce carbon footprints and involve private players in the civil nuclear energy programme. India aims to meet climate targets through a robust nuclear energy programme, emphasizing the importance of private sector participation.
