The government has announced new measures to help stalking victims identify their perpetrators more quickly, including tougher restraining orders and easier access to Stalking Protection Orders. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper will introduce ‘Right to Know’ guidance allowing police to disclose online stalkers’ identities sooner. The move comes after ex Coronation Street actor Nicola Thorp’s stalking ordeal, during which her perpetrator’s identity was withheld until court despite numerous violent messages and social media accounts set up by the stalker.
