Push-up challenges, balloon-busting races, and karate demonstrations were all part of the fun Saturday during a fundraising fitness festival organized by students in the event management program at St. Clair College.

Participants of all ages took part in tai chi, yoga, dance aerobics, and more at the Forest Glade Arena, while also enjoying healthy — and some not-so-healthy but more fun — snacks.

“We studied the theoretical aspects but we also need to do the practical of what we have learned over the course of our program,” said student organizer Deborah Odueke.

In addition, the students partnered with a non-profit organization and raised funds for the group. They chose the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Ekasdeep Toor, 8, had his face painted and then enjoyed a big bite of tasty cotton candy, while 11-year-old Karlyn Pena learned how to do a headstand.

“It was really hard,” Pena said afterward.

Pena was assisted by University of Windsor grad Vikas Kumar, who demonstrated his own headstand skills by remaining in the posture for more than two minutes.

“I love to tell people how you can improve your day-to-day activity and you can upgrade your mental health,” Kumar said, adding he was trying to promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle for others.
