The South Korean National Assembly passed a bill to impeach Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, the acting president, with 192 votes, marking the first impeachment of an acting president in South Korean history. Despite the ruling People Power Party’s argument for a higher vote requirement, the impeachment was carried out with 151 votes as per constitutional guidelines. The impeachment was triggered by Han’s refusal to appoint three judges for the Constitutional Court, sparking tensions between the government and the National Assembly amidst concerns over political stability and Yoon Suk-yeol’s potential return to office.
