SK Hynix’s acquisition of Intel’s SSD division led to the creation of Solidigm, which recently announced the discontinuation of its consumer SSD models, signaling its exit from the market. The company will now concentrate on data center solutions, emphasizing high-capacity SSDs for AI applications as it pivots away from the competitive consumer SSD market, where profit margins have been shrinking due to oversupply. Expect more brands to follow suit and exit the B2C SSD market by 2025.
