The solar farm Lauriston, a joint venture between Genesis Energy and Future Renewable Vision Australia, is set to increase power output in the district by December, with construction on track and waste management procedures in place. The project has produced 200 tonnes of waste, mainly green waste, delivered to the Ashburton Resource Recovery Park, causing a 43% increase in waste received in September. Once operational, the 63 MW solar farm will generate renewable energy to power 13,000 houses, claiming to be New Zealand’s largest until a larger farm near Taupō is built.
