SoCal pair milked Medicare for $6 million in gold, feds allege

Southern California duo Sophia Shaklian and Alex Alexsanian are accused of running a Medicare fraud scheme involving $54 million in fraudulent claims for hospice and diagnostic testing services. The pair allegedly laundered $23 million in reimbursements by purchasing $6 million in gold bars and coins in a Glendale apartment. Shaklian faces 16 counts of healthcare fraud and four counts of money laundering, while Alexsanian is charged with conspiracy to launder monetary instruments and concealment money laundering.
